This is when a clean, surgically sharp instrument is used to cut through the animal’s throat, windpipe and blood vessels in its neck, killing the animal instantly and as humanely as possible.

The word ‘halal’ means permissible. For meat and poultry to be halal, the animals need to be healthy, well looked after, and have to be slaughtered in the method, mentioned above. Slaughtering the animals in this manner ensures the blood is immediately drained out of the body of the animal, thus not going into the meat. Therefore halal meat and chicken do not have any blood spots on the meat, which means it stays fresher for longer.
